Overview

Humanities are the history, literature, philosophy and arts, as well as the various cultural, religious and folk traditions, that define and express humanity.

The Center for the Humanities is one of HCPS' specialty centers and was founded in 1995. Our program provides students with an opportunity to pursue a rigorous, interdisciplinary academic experience in the humanities while fulfilling graduation requirements for an advanced diploma with a specialty center seal. Our students thrive with their academically focused peers in our discussion-based classes, modeled on St. John's College in Annapolis, Maryland, where the Great Books curriculum is studied in small interdisciplinary class discussions. Because the Center is located at Hermitage High School, students may also take advantage of all the sports, clubs and resources of a large high school.
